Google

I just love Google! Not only is the stock that I bought going up everyday at least for now (it remained super stagnant for more than a month), cos normally I'm usually unlucky, whatever I buy will go down. Now, I'm cursing myself for not buying more, when it was low last 2 weeks. Urgh ! And then, I got a $6 check last week from the Virginia lottery, when they sent checks to people who won at the end of their subscription.

I finally switched my homepage from Yahoo to Google. It's really amazing. I was able to put a Sticky Note on the Google page, and actually type whatever notes that I need to be reminded of on it. Customized it with the News I want to watch, & even have a bookmark of my favorite sites. All these on 1 site. Yahoo site has too many advertisement, and unwanted info. Was also able to put a Big round clock, and stock market ticker on it too. That's really cool, and save me a lot of time.

At last, we got a break from the heavy rains. I haven't seen such heavy rain in a long long time. Had to turn the ac to 80F, cos it's stuffy, so this month's electric bill gonna go up.

Bought a really cool contemporary table lamp, only to find it dumped in the garage by my hubby the next morning.

Hubby's office was closed the second time this week, probably due to the heavy rain, & computer system down. Even the IRS, and National Archives offices were closed. So, we went to a Thai resaurant in Arlington. Ate 4 sticks of satay for $5 huh??, and it's not as good as the Singapore satay. Lucky the whole bill came to only $48 including tips. Also ate pak thai, drunken noodles & mango with sweet sticky rice with coconut milk. My son only chose to eat the mango. Still, this is really a good meal. After that, we went to Reagan National Airport, and saw small Cessna airplanes flying over us, and people skating, and cycling by. Took more photos of the Monument. My son quivered each time a plane flew over us. Passed by hubby's office at the USPTO & Pentagon

I’m a Singaporean living in Virginia, USA.

This is a blog-style mix with business.

What I am thinking is to create a network of contacts, where I can send to you items sold only in US. It doesn't even have to be expensive items. It can be small gifts, book, or latest gadgets that you can't find in Asia. Like for me, I wish someone can FedEx a chilli crab to me, if you can get pass the customs. I once bought online a VCD, 1 Litre of Tears from Malaysia for US$30, to have it shipped to US, as they will only ship to a credit card address, and then, I have to send back the same VCD to my mum in Singapore. You got to have it, then, you got to buy it, no matter what.

When it comes to online shopping at US sites, you will be spoilt to find so many choices and quality items. Things you cannot find in a departmental store. Some of my all time favorite sites are William-Sonoma (the place for cooks), Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, J Crew, LL Bean. You probably have your own favorite sites. My strategy is to buy only items on sale. It pays to wait a while. If you are looking for LeCreuset pots, buy from suppliers who offer free shipping. Prices can be very competitive. What about sending a copper pot (small one of course :) or All Clad pot for someone's wedding gift - a lifetime of cooking to do together. It's great to collect these beautiful pots, and hang on the pot rack, or somewhere above the sink.

Especially for those of you who have studied or lived here, and relocated back, you may not been able to buy as many things as you wish, as many retailers do not offer international shipping.

Let me know what you need to get, and see if I can UPS (or better still, USPS) it for you.
